While even though the Houston Astros were caught in a huge and controversial scandal in 2017 which had the whole league up in arms, apparently the Yankees had a scandal of their own and commissioner Rob Manfred covered it up. To start off, the Astros were caught cheating in 2017 by using a trashcan and a camera to steal their opponents signs and get an unfair advantage at their home field. Players stats where totally lopsided, putting up crazy good numbers in Houston and being underwhelming on road trips. Long story short, they got caught cheating and received a slap on the wrist by the commissioner. Little did we know, he was covering up another scandal by the Yankees, a team who felt "cheated" from a championship. According to a letter from Manfred, the Yankees were found guilty of cheating in 2017. While the details of how are not clear, it is clear that the commissioner was trying to hide it for as long as he could. All this does is ruin the sport. Teams are being told that the better you are at cheating, the less trouble you will be in. This tarnishes the reputation of the game because it is allowing teams to take a loophole towards a championship rather than working and putting a winning team together. Plus, it takes away from how good some of these players are. The Astros had five players representing the team at the All Star Game in 2017, but after this scandal, how many of them actually deserved to be all stars. we went through the steroid scandal which costed some of the best players of all time a chance at the Hall of Fame, and we are only beginning a stretch of scandals using cameras, so it will be interesting how the game evolves around this loophole of a rule.
